The 1960 Bulldogs went 9-0 and finished No. I in UPI coaches poll
The Bettendorf Bulldogs Football Program, founded in 1951, quickly rose to prominence as a powerhouse in Iowa high school football. From 1957 to 1960, the Bulldogs embarked on an impressive four-season run, achieving a record of 32-2-1 and setting the stage for decades of success.
The pinnacle of this era came in 1960 when the Bulldogs went undefeated with a perfect 9-0 record, earning the top spot in the United Press International coaches poll and the prestigious title of Mythical State Champions.
That 1960 team was a force to be reckoned with, averaging an extraordinary 42 points per game while holding opponents to fewer than 11. No team came within 16 points of defeating them as they claimed their fourth consecutive conference title. With a remarkable 26-game unbeaten streak, the seniors on the squad capped their high school careers without experiencing a single loss.
