***SPECIAL
UPDATE***
End of an Era: MAC goes to
District football
December 20, 2013
After 27 years of MAC football,
conference schools have now made the decision to switch to District football
with the realigning of several former 4A schools dropping to 3A.
In the conference's statement released by
Pleasant Valley athletic director D'Anne
Kroemer, it said in light of Davenport Assumption,
Dubuque Wahlert and Cedar Rapids Xavier's decisions
to drop down to Class 3A, the district football concept was inevitable.
Bettendorf dominated the MAC and won 14
conference titles and is the only school to win three straight (1987-89) along
with five other back-to-back championships. To read the entire Quad City

Assumption seeks to drop
3A, will have ripple effect
December 18, 2013
Davenport Assumption—along with Dubuque
Wahlert and Cedar Rapids Xavier—have asked the
IAHSAA to drop their football programs to 3A. This means that the number of 4A
school on the eastern half of the state will drop to 21 and thus not only cause
a ripple effect for 3A football, but also affect the Mississippi Athletic and
Mississippi Valley Conferences as both the MAC and MVC will have to decide to
continue in a conference format or go to district football. Whatever the case,
the landscape for 4A football and thus Bettendorf is going to change. Stay
tuned!
